Last week, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom announced that they are expecting their first child together.
“We’re excited and happy,” the singer confirmed on Instagram. She also debuted her growing baby bump in her new music video for “Never Worn White,” showcasing her side profile at the very end. Since breaking the news, the singer has jumped right back into superstar mode: this weekend just gone, she performed at the ICC Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup Final in Melbourne, Australia.
But it’s not so much the pregnancy itself that people are bustling with joy about… no… it’s the fashion that comes in tow: the maternity wardrobe of Katy Perry.
Katy has always been incredibly playful in her aesthetic. The signature I Kissed A Girl Days abundant with playsuits and 50’s elements, to the floral frenzy of Roar from the Prismatic world tour, to her latest bohemian baby breeze… She’s a chameleon - this much we know.
Most mothers veer towards practical and comfy clothes throughout their pregnancies, but we’re already witnessing Perry hitting the streets in an array of vibrant floral dresses, retro prints, sugar sweet accessories, groovy minidresses, and endless colour-blocking.
What I hope Perry can do, with her celebrity status and huge following, is to inspire women - both expecting and already mothers - to not fall into the trap of thinking their ‘hey-day’ has come and gone. Never. Fashion, like art, is subjective; created for beauty and emotional reaction which is determined by an individuals own personal feelings and tastes.
Katy is here to accentuate and emphasise to women across the world who are mothers that beauty and fashion still need YOU. YOU still need fashion. And YOU should never succumb to the feeling of needing to fit a stereotypical mould.
So go on, have a gander, have a scroll… and discover Katy’s pregnancy looks so far, accompanied by our own style guide of designers, products and brands that will tickle you pink (or blue?)…
