The Scoop on Hackney Gelato

Real ice cream is difficult to come by these days. Supermarket own brands present you with a foamy, next to nothing flavour. And even the most renowned and commercial labels such as Ben and Jerry's often leave one with a disappointed taste in their mouths. So who is there to turn to in such desperate, ice cream craving times?!

The new kid on the block, sorta. The duo behind this brand are (thankfully) Italian, meaning one thing: they KNOW what REAL ice cream SHOULD be!

As genuine chefs who met at the Michelin-starred Locanda Locatelli, they agreed much like I that the quality of ice cream in London needs some improvement, and in true superhero style, they flew in to save the day.

Flashback to 2015, which is the annum the duo spent a summer touring Sicily, Calabria and Basilicata, honing in on their craft with master gelatieri. After this expedition... Hackney Gelato was born.

The beginnings were humble: selling homemade gelato at Brick Lane’s Sunday market. Word spread among the chef community like wildfire however and today the brand now supplies gelato and sorbetto to some of the best restaurants and shops in the country.

The ice cream is hand made in small batches in their East London kitchen also, which... I don't know, to me that makes it even more authentic?! East Londoners after all are generally the salt of the earth kinda people. Honest. Raw. True. Hardworking. So to have ice cream made in the middle of that persona? It's rather idyllic.

But what will truly make your eyes lustful and your tummy rumbling are their hyper creative flavours... which LAITMYLK is about to run through for you.

Prepare yourself... y'all ain't ready!
