This ink drawing is dedicated to #DaisyColeman, an actress who took her life yesterday at just aged 23 after a long and gruelling battle with depression, anxiety and PTSD stemming from an experience with sexual assault / rape.
Being 23 myself and having experienced the same traumas as Daisy, my heart aches for her, her family, her friends and for the life she could have led.
She was tipped for numerous awards following an outstanding performance in Netflix documetary/film Audrie & Daisy, which follows three cases of rape of teenage American girls, in 2011 and 2012 - Daisy's being one of these cases.
The film resonated with me strongly for many reasons. What further hurts me however is how hard she FOUGHT to overcome her #PTSD... through therapeutic methods such as EMDR therapy (Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), mindfulness, by starting her own charitable organisation to help other girls who've experienced sexual abuse/rape (instagram.com/safe_bae)... she had the world in her hands, but the scars in her mind were too deep.
I'll be focusing me next few posts for LAITMYLK.COM and The Keverian Foundation on sexual abuse, rape, PTSD and, above all else: on Daisy.
